Persuasion Phone Bank: Quick Training
Today we're calling No Party Affiliation (NPA) voters about Jeremy Matlow for Mayor and PJ Perez for City Commission.
What's a persuasion phone bank?
Unlike a GOTV phone bank, where we're reminding people to vote, a persuasion phone bank is about having conversations with voters, learning what issues matter to them, answering questions, and identifying where they stand on our candidates.
NPA voters aren't necessarily undecided. They simply aren't registered with a political party.
What are we doing today?
1. Storm preparedness check-in
Ask how they're preparing for the incoming storm.
Listen and direct them to official resources if they need assistance. (Be respectful of their time and circumstances.
2. Talk about the city elections
Introduce yourself as calling with the Matlow and Perez campaigns.
Ask what local issues matter most to them.
Share accurate candidate information and answer questions.
Find out where they stand on each candidate.
3. Record their responses
YES: Supports the candidate.
UNDECIDED: Hasn't decided.
NO: Does not support the candidate.
UNKNOWN: Won't say or can't determine.
Record support for Jeremy and PJ separately.
Tips for first-time persuasion phone bankers
Be conversational! Don't just read the script.
Listen more than you talk.
Don't argue with voters.
If you don't know an answer, don't make one up.
Always accurately record the voter's response.
Remember: We're checking in on our neighbors, listening to their concerns, and learning where voters stand. Storm assistance comes first and is never tied to political support.
